Very cool dude….

Just another beautiful evening at our cabin…..🏡

For two days we enjoyed eight members of the extended Yang Clan at our mountain cabin. Sally devised a “Kopje Creek Camp” nature activity curriculum for the kids and in addition, we flew kites, ate nice food, hiked, practiced archery, caught, named and released Richardson’s Ground Squirrels, watched the hummingbirds gorge on nectar and lots of other mountain “campy” sorts of activities. Did I mention we ate lots of nice food?

At camp, archers refine their Olympic form

A good time had by all!

A few of the early wildflowers in bloom. Pasque flower and buttercup. Due to the rain, I couldn’t get a good picture of the forget-me-nots covering the front yard.
In addition to the usual moose, elk and deer captured in the game camera, we found a few less frequent visitors: a marmot, a goose in flight and a coyote.
Rained all last night and all Wednesday. It’s no hardship with a cozy fire and a good book.

Friday morning: our neighbors call to inform us that the snow-covered roads to our cabin are once again open, so we immediately headed up for two nights.
Friday afternoon: the winds were howling! 4 large semi tractor/trailer trucks are laying on their sides next to the road. The 60+ mph winds blew them over as they attempted to come over the pass into Laramie. Continue reading “Winter Snowscape”
Our friends and cabin neighbors (who are full-time mountain residents and hardy folks), have been “snowed-in” for almost 3 weeks. The roads were closed by early snow storms, and since the county does not plow to clear them, our friends have been unable to get to town. Go outside and play………
In 2016 we spent a tremendous amount of time at our Colorado mountain cabin….
I am at my 8,500′, (2,600m) elevation cabin preparing for winter.
At this moment, the temperature is 28F (-2 C) with winds at 40 mph (65 kph) velocity. The weather is blustery, but the beautiful sunset makes it worthwhile to hike to the top of the nearby ridge.
Tuesday 8″ (20cm) of snow is forecast along with -6F (-21C) evening low temperature.
Real winter has begun…..
A skiff of snow, aspen colors fading, Sally’s bird feeder without visitors…
