At our Colorado mountain cabin, we have two game cameras. They are motion triggered, set on a creek near a beaver pond and regularly frequented by wild animals of all sorts. On some weeks, the cameras capure over one thousand photographs. We regularly see moose, elk, mule deer, pronghorn antelope, coyotes, bear, bobcat, owls, hawks, great blue heron, beaver, marmot, rabbits and more. We especially enjoy the spring when mama moose, elk and deer show up regularly with their babies.
Rhode Island Willetts, brother Tom and sister Barbara, come to the mountains of Colorado to enjoy our cabin, wildlife and fall fly fishing……… Continue reading “Colorado Autumn Splendor 🍂”
Late August 2016. The Colorado high country is still enjoying summer, but night temperatures are dropping down to freezing. Aspens show just a few leaves beginning to turn to gold and elk have not quite entered the “rut”.
Wild flowers: Dozens of small early spring wild flowers have appeared at our 8,500 ft elevation cabin. Pasqueflowers, buttercups, forget-me-nots, bistorts, daisy fleabanes, phlox, barrel cactus and many others, despite the fact that we still have snow drifts in the creek bottom over 10 ft deep!
After being blocked by snow for weeks, the road into the cabin finally open. My new BFGoodrich T/A KO2 tires mounted on the old red truck carried us through the snow, around the old Whorl Ranch (where three neighbors had gotten stuck just a few days before, who had to be pulled ou by lovely neighbor Oscar Orozco)! The new tires gave us great confidence! (Even having and wanting to test our new tires, we should have taken the Ferret Circle bypass to be safe!) 🚒
Winds were very high – up to 49 mph! The highighest daytime temperatures were only 32 derees, and it takes quite a bit of effort to walk straight into the wind!
No lions 🐯 or tigers 🐅 or bears 🐻 (or tin men). But of literally thousands of pictures captured on our game cam (thanks to Julie, Ben and David Lockman for those gifts!). These hand-picked photos are the most representative of our wild neighbor’s visits nearly every evening during April through November 2014 & 2015. (After November, the Cameras will be under 15 ft of snow!)
